THE Westminster Confession of Faith has been the doctrinal standard of Presbyterian denominations historically and remains that of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing). It is called the ‘subordinate standard’, in acknowledgment that the Bible must always be the supreme standard of any church of Christ. We believe however that the Westminster Confession is fully consistent with Scripture and so every office-bearer in the church must subscribe to it as “the confession of my faith.”

In the opinion of American Presbyterian B.B. Warfield (1851-1921) the Westminster Confession was: “The most complete, the most fully elaborated and carefully guarded, the most perfect, and the most vital expression that has ever been formed by the hand of man, of all that enters into what we call evangelical religion, and of all that must be safeguarded if evangelical religion is to persist in the world.” The Confession has thirty-three chapters. Here is the full text of the Confession of Faith with the Scripture proofs attached. It is worthy of careful study.

The Westminster Assembly in Session
"Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God" (Luke 12:8).

"We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak" (2 Cor. 4:13).
